Kaavad Art-‘Kaavad Banchana’, an oral tradition of storytelling is stillalive in Rajasthan where stories from the epics Mahabharataand Ramayana are told along with stories from the Puranas,caste genealogies and stories from the folk tradition. Theexperience is audio-visual as the telling is accompanied bytaking the listener on a visual journey made possible bythe ‘Kaavad’ shrine. Against the backdrop of storytelling itinvokes the notion of a sacred space and provides an identityto all concerned with its making, telling and listening.
